NSW Tangara T set awaiting departure NSW CityRail V-set

This page contains some changes you might like to make to the N.S.W. CityRail Tangara T set and V-set ENGine files for more prototypical performance.

Figures for mass were taken from a CityRail document. This document also contains good graphics for all the CityRail suburban service driver and passenger cars.

  V-Set & Tangara upgrades

The main change to make to each V-set ENGine file is that for MaxPower. webTrainSim has used a value derived from the specs given by Peter Clark in his article on Sydney's suburban fleet in the February 2002 edition of Railway Digest.

It was more by good luck than design that a value was found for the maximum current that Sydney's 1500V DC catenary system can tolerate (i.e., before a substation is blown up!).

The V-sets, as do other CityRail trainsets, use regenerative braking as a form of dynamic braking. Prototypical performance for this is not implemented.

Friction values were obtained with Joseph Realmuto's Friction Calculator (fcalc_10.zip in the Train-Sim.com file library).

As per usual, values to change are shown in red and dotted lines indicate you need to scroll further down the ENG file. Remember to only edit in WordPad or other Unicode text format compatible editor.

  Tangara T-set ENG changes

Here are some suggested changes to the Tangara ENGine file to achieve more prototypical behaviour. As for the V-set, the Friction Calculator was used. Sounds are aliased to the Acela sounds; webTrainSim has enhanced the default sounds with Joseph Realmuto's elecsnds.zip for less airbrake noise, brake rumble and squeal when stopping.

Lastly, the default 2000's cabview has been aliased, using cabalias.zip to save a whole lot of editing to the default 2000.cvf.
